3AC wallet buys NFT with 3-year-old offer, zkSync denies insider minting claims: Nifty Newsletter

Three Arrows Capital (3AC) Wallet Purchases NFT with Three-Year-Old Offer

A wallet associated with the bankrupt hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC) made waves by purchasing a Neon Village NFT for 20 Ether (approximately $59,821) on July 5. This transaction was based on an offer made three years prior. Despite 3AC filing for bankruptcy in July 2022, the hedge fund's wallets, managed by liquidation firm Teneo, facilitated the purchase using funds that had been in escrow since 2021.

The SuperRare Bot X channel flagged the sale, identifying the buyer as "abcdefg." While some collectors celebrated the transaction, others, like NFT collector Brian on X, pointed out the bid's age, suggesting it might have been forgotten by the buyer.

zkSync Developer Matter Labs Refutes Insider Minting Claims

Matter Labs, the developer behind zkSync, addressed allegations of "insider minting" for its Libertas Omnibus NFTs on June 26. The company affirmed that all minters met official criteria, which included attending events and interacting with top zkSync NFTs. They clarified that holding Libertas Omnibus NFTs alone did not guarantee eligibility for ZK airdrops. Instead, airdrop eligibility was based on various factors, including funds held on zkSync Era and additional multipliers, with Matter Labs emphasizing that employees were not eligible for the airdrop.

These allegations arose from a June 17 post by blockchain researcher soEasy, who accused the team of distributing NFTs to ineligible friends and bypassing airdrop requirements.

Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) Features Ethiopian Art and NFTs

The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) in Ohio concluded its major exhibition of Ethiopian art with a unique focus on NFTs. The museum announced that the Ethiopian art collective Yatreda would be its second digital artist in residence, following Nigerian NFT artist Osinachi. This announcement coincided with the launch of TMA Labs, a new department dedicated to exploring emerging technologies.

Yatreda's "House of Yatreda" installation bridges historical Ethiopian artifacts with modern NFT art, showcasing both renowned and new pieces. This initiative, part of TMA's "Ethiopia at the Crossroads" exhibition, aims to connect past traditions with contemporary digital art, highlighting Ethiopian history and culture through animated NFTs.
