Adidas Contests Nike for Physical NFT Supremacy with Classic Kicks

Adidas, a prominent urban and athletic wear brand, is entering the world of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) by creating physical NFT shoes. Following in the footsteps of its rival Nike, Adidas is reviving a classic shoe model, the Adidas Campus 00s, in collaboration with digital artist FEWOCiOUS.

The Adidas Campus 00s NFT collection is driven by the company's commitment to innovation. The collection includes Trefoil Flower Mint Passes, limited to 4,500 pieces. Collectors of digital art can acquire these NFTs through a public sale for 0.25 ETH (equivalent to $435) and then redeem them for a real pair of sneakers.

FEWOCiOUS, a young and talented NFT artist known for his pop art, surrealism, and avant-garde fusion, has created the limited edition footwear. FEWOCiOUS has gained attention from prominent collectors and recently sold his life story through NFTs for an impressive $2.1 million.

By partnering with an established NFT artist, Adidas aims to gain a head start in the realm of bi-dimensional sneakers. Nike has already taken this step with the launch of their subsidiary, RTFKT, which specializes in next-generation sneakers. Nike achieved significant success in the NFT space, generating over $185 million in NFT sales in 2022. Despite some technical issues during the NFT mint, Nike's physical Air Force 1 NFT shoes were released in March 2023 and quickly sold out.

Adidas's venture into physical NFT shoes demonstrates the growing influence of NFTs in the fashion industry and the brand's commitment to embracing innovation and technology.
