'Dookey Dash' Gets Free-to-Play Reboot With Token Rewards for Ethereum NFT Owners
Yuga Labs, the creator of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, is set to relaunch its NFT-gated endless runner game, Dookey Dash, with a new free-to-play version titled "Dookey Dash: Unclogged." Collaborating with game studio Faraway, the game will be available to the public, marking a departure from the original NFT-gated model.
In the original version of Dookey Dash, players navigated a 3D sewer tunnel as an ape riding a vehicle underwater, aiming to score points while avoiding obstacles. The relaunched version, "Unclogged," will be accessible to all players, not just those with specific NFTs. The new game is expected to be released for iOS, Android, Mac desktop, and Windows desktop.
While the original Dookey Dash required a Sewer Pass NFT on the Ethereum blockchain, the new version will be open to a wider audience. However, Yuga Labs states that holders of their Ethereum NFTs, including Bored Apes, Mutant Apes, Kodas, Bored Ape Kennel Club dogs, and HV-MTL Forge NFTs, will still be eligible for "token benefits." The specific details of these benefits, including the distribution of ApeCoin tokens, are yet to be officially confirmed.
The original Dookey Dash gained attention earlier when pro Fortnite player "Mongraal" won the game, selling the winning NFT key for $1.63 million to billionaire Adam Weitsman.
The relaunched Dookey Dash features improvements such as playable character skins, new game vehicles, a leaderboard, purchasable in-game currencies, and a "Sewer Rank" system with various competitive tiers. Players can choose boosters before starting the game, including options like a "slow booster," a "magnet booster," and a "power shart."
The game is scheduled for a mid-February launch, and Yuga Labs is aiming to engage the broader crypto community with the new version. The relaunch aims to avoid issues such as cheating and boosting that were reported with the original release.
