Ethereum NFT Card Battler ‘Parallel’ Launches on Epic Games Store
Parallel, an Ethereum-based NFT-driven competitive card game, has officially launched on the Epic Games Store, opening up to a potential audience of 75 million monthly active users. This significant move is expected to introduce the game to a wider player base, significantly enhancing its reach and engagement.
The Epic Games Store, a major PC gaming marketplace with 270 million users as of the end of 2023, offers a variety of games from numerous studios, including Epic’s own hits like Fortnite and Rocket League. Parallel's inclusion in this marketplace marks a crucial step in its growth and accessibility.
Originally GG’s pick for the 2023 game of the year, Parallel has already broadened its access by launching an open beta earlier this year after a successful closed beta phase. The game utilizes NFTs minted on Ethereum and the layer-2 scaling network Base, but also includes non-tokenized in-game cards. Players who download Parallel from the Epic Games Store can receive five additional “Apparition Packs” containing non-NFT cards, encouraging new players to explore the game.
Parallel Studios, which secured $35 million in funding in March and recently introduced the Planetfall expansion, is also making a significant push into esports. The studio has announced plans for over $500,000 in prizes for the first year of Parallel League competitions, with aspirations to expand the competitive prize pool into millions of dollars next year.
Franklin Fitch, Head of Partnerships at Parallel, emphasized the game’s broader ambitions. “Parallel going live on Epic opens us up to millions more players worldwide,” he stated in a release. “But we don't plan to stop there. As we roll out more ways to access and play Parallel, we also plan to scale our competitive prize pool into millions of dollars next year.”
This strategic launch on the Epic Games Store and the planned esports initiatives position Parallel as a key player in the competitive card game genre, leveraging the growing interest in NFT-based games and the expansive reach of the Epic Games platform.
