Ethereum takes the NFT stage by storm with Ethscriptions
The recent introduction of Ethscriptions, an Ethereum-based inscription system inspired by Bitcoin's inscriptions, has received a favorable response from users. Ethscriptions allows for the creation and sharing of digital works through Ethereum transaction calldata. Alongside this launch, Ethereum Punks, a collection of non-contract punks similar to those found on Bitcoin, was also unveiled. All 10,000 Ethereum punk inscriptions were quickly claimed, highlighting the enthusiastic reception of this new venture.
Ethereum's smart contract capabilities and widespread adoption have positioned it as a dominant force in the NFT space. The top-ranking NFT collections based on volume, sales, and market capitalization on DappRadar are predominantly on the Ethereum network. Axie Infinity leads the pack, followed by Crypto Punks, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC). This data reaffirms Ethereum's strong presence in the NFT market.
With the introduction of inscriptions, Ethereum could experience an increase in transaction fees, similar to the impact seen with Bitcoin's inscriptions and Ordinals. The popularity of inscriptions could lead to a higher volume of transactions on the Ethereum network, resulting in increased fees. Recent data shows that Ethereum has recorded the highest fees compared to other platforms, with daily fees surpassing 4.6 million on June 16 and averaging over 4.3 million in the past seven days, according to Crypto Fees.
