EthOS launches hardware device for Ethereum on-chain dApp interactions
Ethereum-based operating system ethOS has introduced the dGEN1, a groundbreaking hardware device designed to streamline interactions with on-chain decentralized applications (dApps). Described as “the first on-chain everyday carry,” the dGEN1 is tailored to users who engage extensively with Ethereum’s growing ecosystem.
Unlike other blockchain-focused devices like Solana's Mobile Saga, the dGEN1 focuses exclusively on Ethereum interactions, omitting telecom functionalities. It operates on a specialized version of LineageOS, an Android fork, and integrates a native Nimbus light client, allowing users to verify their transactions directly without relying on third-party remote procedure calls (RPCs). This ensures greater trust and transparency when engaging with dApps.
Key features of the dGEN1 include a built-in browser supporting IPFS and .eth domains, enhancing access to decentralized content. Its dedicated screen provides real-time transaction notifications and metadata, keeping users informed about their Ethereum network activities, offering a seamless and enhanced user experience.
The device is available for preorder through an NFT minting process on the Base Layer 2 network at a price of 0.2 ETH (approximately $520). Around 630 users have already secured the associated NFT, with shipping expected in the second quarter of 2025. As an added incentive, ethOS plans to reward dGEN1 owners with an airdrop, further enhancing the benefits for early adopters.
With its unique design and emphasis on Ethereum-centric functionality, the dGEN1 positions itself as an essential tool for enthusiasts looking to efficiently navigate the decentralized app space.
