Influencer ghosted Logan Paul NFT lawsuit to ‘save six figures
Jake Greenbaum, a crypto influencer involved in the failed NFT project CryptoZoo, chose to ignore a lawsuit from YouTube star Logan Paul to avoid potentially losing millions. Greenbaum, who worked with Paul on CryptoZoo, faced legal action after the project led to a series of lawsuits in early 2023.
Paul offered a buyback plan for investors in January 2024, which lawyers labeled a "sneaky trick," and simultaneously filed a lawsuit against Greenbaum and Eduardo Ilbanez for insider trading. Greenbaum's attorney advised him to ignore the lawsuit, predicting that Paul, with his wealth and penchant for attention, could easily file numerous counterclaims and lawsuits, making the legal battle costly and protracted.
Greenbaum stated that ignoring the lawsuit meant Paul couldn't collect damages from him due to his lack of significant assets, while responding could result in six to seven figures in legal fees and an ongoing case. He called Paul’s accusations "completely false" and an attempt to deflect blame.
A default judgment was submitted against Greenbaum on June 16, leading Paul’s legal team to request a 90-day discovery period to assess damages. They did not comment on Greenbaum’s legal approach.
