Mastercard's UEFA Champions League Game Lets Cardholders Win Tickets via NFT Pass
Mastercard has introduced an innovative soccer trivia game for the 2023/2024 UEFA Champions League tournament, leveraging NFT technology to offer fans the opportunity to win match tickets while testing their league knowledge.
This new NFT-powered game, powered by MoonPay, allows Mastercard customers to participate by collecting branded NFT passes through the company's "Pass to Priceless" platform. These NFT passes are minted on Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network.
The game will commence 30 minutes before Tuesday night UEFA Champions League matches, starting from February 13. Players can answer questions about Champions League history and statistics, with winners of each round earning match tickets and climbing up a season-long leaderboard. The top player by the end of the semi-finals on April 30 will secure tickets to the Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium in London.
MoonPay, in collaboration with Otherlife creative agency, developed the technology behind Mastercard's NFT-driven experience. This partnership between MoonPay and Mastercard was announced last October as part of their commitment to Web3 initiatives.
Beatrice Cornacchia, Mastercard's executive vice president of marketing and communications in Europe, highlighted the company's long-standing partnership with the UEFA Champions League and expressed excitement about leveraging the Web3 platform to engage football fans in a unique way.
The Champions League trivia contest is open to Mastercard cardholders in several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, and Brazil. It will run until the June 1 final, providing an engaging and interactive experience for fans throughout the tournament.
