Miladys NFT Prices Tumble After Creator Doxxes Self as Person Behind Controversial 'Miya'
The popular non-fungible token (NFT) collection "Milady Maker" has experienced a significant drop in prices following revelations that its creator, Charlotte Fang, was linked to a controversial online persona known as "Miya." Minimum prices for Milady NFTs have fallen nearly 70% in the past week, compared to their all-time highs in April. Trading volumes have also decreased.
Last week, a decentralized finance developer alleged that Fang was the person behind the Miya account, which was associated with spreading hatred against various groups. Fang admitted to being Miya and apologized for trying to hide the past account. However, she stated that her real views did not align with the hateful content associated with Miya.
The revelations about the creator's past have caused concerns within the Milady community and led to a decline in prices. Other popular NFT collections, such as CryptoPunks and the Bored Ape Yacht Club, have not been affected, indicating that this incident is specific to the Milady collection.
It's worth noting that the Milady project has faced controversy in the past, with avatars in a spin-off collection wearing shirts bearing the word "Treblinka," a Nazi concentration camp. The creators clarified that the term was randomly generated by a computer and not intentionally associated with the camp.
The situation highlights the reputational risks associated with NFT projects and the impact that the actions and background of creators can have on the value and perception of their collections.
