NFT Marketplace Magic Eden Joins D3 to Bid for Domain Name

NFT marketplace Magic Eden, a notable entity in the Web3 sphere, has teamed up with D3 Global to bid for the .magic top-level domain (TLD) name. Their joint effort aims to secure this domain from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which will streamline the integration of Magic Eden with its internet infrastructure, thereby simplifying the onboarding process for users, developers, and Web3 communities.

Upon ICANN's approval, the D3 network will facilitate the use of authentic .magic domains across traditional internet and Web3 platforms. This means users can utilize a single .magic domain for websites, email addresses, digital wallets, and verified credentials within Web3 applications.

Fred Hsu, CEO and co-founder of D3, emphasized the importance of bridging Web3 identifiers with the broader internet to grow the Web3 community. He believes that this approach will onboard billions of internet users by meeting them where they currently are.

Through D3's on-chain network, developers and blockchain projects will be enabled to create interoperable decentralized applications (dApps), platforms, and services.

Chris Akhavan, Chief Revenue Officer of Magic Eden, expressed excitement about providing users with their own .magic domains, highlighting the potential to welcome new users to Web3 while maintaining familiar Web2 functionalities.

Magic Eden and D3 Global plan to submit their application for the .magic TLD during ICANN's upcoming application window.
