Takashi Murakami to Release Collection of 13 NFTs Linked to Physical Hublot Watches
Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and luxury watchmaker Hublot have collaborated to create a new collection of real-world watches connected to non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This collaboration marks the fourth artistic venture between Murakami and Hublot. The collection consists of 13 unique NFTs inspired by Japanese video games and TV shows from the 1970s, as well as the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black watch launched in January 2021.
These NFTs are associated with 13 physical watches that will be unveiled at the Watches & Wonders 2023 trade show in Geneva in April. Each digital replica is presented in a distinct rainbow hue and features Murakami's recognizable smiling flower emblem. Out of the 13 timepieces, 12 will be exclusively available to collectors who previously purchased one of the 324 Murakami and Hublot NFTs released in April 2022.
The final watch in the collection, named the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow, was revealed at an event in New York. It features a spinning flower adorned with rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites, and topaz.
The 12 NFTs associated with the collection can be resold on the OpenSea platform until April 2024. If a single collector manages to acquire all 12 NFTs, they will have the opportunity to purchase the sought-after Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow watch. However, if no collector obtains all 12 NFTs, Hublot will auction the watch to raise funds for charity.
Murakami has been actively involved with NFTs since the launch of his Murakami Flowers collection in March 2021. He has collaborated with various entities, including digital wearables studio RTFKT and Nike, to release special NFT collections.
