Ubisoft Reveals Release Date for ‘Champions Tactics’ NFT Game

Ubisoft has revealed the release date for its first original blockchain game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, which will launch on October 23 on the Oasys network. The tactical PC role-playing game features 75,000 Champion NFTs, allowing players to assemble teams for player-versus-player battles in a dark fantasy setting. The game also includes a crafting system called The Forge, enabling players to combine Champions to create new ones with unique traits.

Ubisoft aims to integrate Web3 technology into the background of the game to prioritize immersive gameplay. Nicolas Pouard, Ubisoft's VP of Strategic Innovation Lab, emphasized the focus on fun and strategy, while Sylvain Loe-Mie, the game's Executive Producer, highlighted the game's approach to giving players ownership of their in-game assets.

In addition to Champions Tactics, Ubisoft had previously launched 9,999 free Ethereum NFT profile pictures (PFPs) called The Warlords, and the company has been actively exploring blockchain gaming, having released Tezos-based NFTs for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint in 2021. Another upcoming blockchain game, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., is set to launch on Ethereum scaling network Arbitrum.
